What is an osteopath?

An osteopath is a licensed doctor who specializes in an individual’s overall health and wellness. For this, they take a holistic approach to treatment that is based on the view that all the systems of the body are connected. So, a healthy body involves the tissues, joints, muscles, and skeleton all functioning easily together.

Conditions an osteopath can help with include:

  • Back, neck, shoulder, hand, or elbow pain

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Sports injuries

  • Pregnancy complaints

  • Arthritis

  • Headaches

  • Digestive issues

What does an osteopath do?

Osteopathic treatment is a drug-free and non-invasive method of manipulative medicine which focuses on reducing or eliminating pain and tension in the body’s musculoskeletal system. The osteopath will use hands-on techniques such as stretching or applying gentle pressure or resistance.

When should I see an online osteopath?

If you are suffering with any of the conditions listed or would like to take a more active approach to maintaining wellness of your body, then an osteopath appointment would be well suited to you. They help with long-term prevention of issues through helping you identify how to place less strain on the body, becoming aware of common triggers and teaching relaxation techniques to reduce stress or anxiety.

What will the online osteopath appointment be like?

Appointments with an osteopath are patient centred. The first appointment will be an initial consultation, that typically lasts between five to thirty minutes, before any treatment occurs. In this session, the online osteopath will ask for a description of your symptoms and reason for the appointment. This will allow them to determine the best course of treatment. If necessary, the osteopath may recommend a follow-up appointment or a visit to a physical clinic.
